K Mintenko

I am a Marlborough-based artist, originally from Canada, whose practice is grounded in experimentation, materiality, and abstraction. My creative journey began through studies in Fine Arts, specializing in painting and sculpture, and later training in Fashion Design. This multidisciplinary background continues to shape my work, influencing the way I approach my medium, and composition.

Working predominantly with palette knives rather than brushes, I create richly texture abstract works inspired by the natural world, and the subtle interactions between people and their environment. My process is intuitive and highly physical, allowing each layer to inform the next as a work evolves. I enjoy embracing the unexpected, often allowing the materials themselves to guide the final outcome.

Sustainability is an integral part of my practice. I work with recycled and reclaimed paint and certified sustainable materials, giving new life to resources that might otherwise be discarded. I frequently incorporate unconventional mediums such as glue, plaster, and sand to create depth, texture, and tactile surfaces that encourage viewers to engage with each work beyond the purely visual.

My paintings are designed to evoke curiosity and personal reflection. I aim to create works that are evocative, and invite multiple interpretations, encouraging viewers to bring their own experiences into the conversation. For me, the most rewarding artworks are those that continue to reveal something new each time they are encountered.

Having relocated to Marlborough in 2020, I have found continual inspiration in the region's distinctive landscapes, and vibrant creative community. These influences continue to shape an evolving body of work that celebrates process, experimentation, and the enduring connection between people, and place.
