Writers of Picton

We are a group of about 10 individuals who are interested in creative writing. Some are professional writers and others are simply interested in the process of expressing ourselves via the written word. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 2pm to 4pm at the Picton Library where we encourage each other to write short pieces (usually 500 words) that we read aloud. The group was started about 30 years ago and the format has been tried and tested, but recent changes to the membership and technology have meant that we have been participating in seminars run by the New Zealand Society of Authors. In 2026 and 2027 we joined forces with the Picton Poets for National Poetry Day to do readings at the Picton Library.
