Marlborough Art Society Gallery and Studio

The Marlborough Art Society (MAS) Gallery and Studio is a community art facility close to the Blenheim town centre. Our premises consist of two galleries, a large studio/workshop area, library, kitchen facilities, toilets and ample parking. Our current membership stands at 280, ranging from practising artists, to admirers, and newcomers to the Marlborough arts community. The gallery is open 10.30am - 4.30pm when an exhibition on.

MAS aims to provide opportunities for people to explore their creativity in a wide range of mediums. We are open, inclusive, and welcoming to our diverse Marlborough community. MAS provides pathways for artists from a wide background to practice, up-skill, and exhibit their works. Ultimately our goal is to enhance lives, foster connections, and contribute to the vibrant identity of the Marlborough region.

Our Society aims to promote the creative arts by providing opportunities for the practice, and continuing education of arts in a wide range of mediums. Members and artists from the local community are encouraged to hold their own exhibitions either as solo exhibitors or joint exhibitors with like-minded artists.

Our well equipped studio/workshop hosts group classes most days during the week, often focused on social engagement and developing skills within a specific medium, such as watercolour, acrylics, drawing, and pastels. As well, there are regular evening classes in figure drawing, print making and a smorgasbord of weekend workshops in a wide range of topics. Tutors are mostly local but there are also opportunities to learn from National, and International artists.

Our galleries host a variety of regular and themed exhibitions. Members exhibitions are offered in Autumn and Spring and other exhibitions are organized in collaboration or alongside various local entities such as the Marlborough Multi Cultural Centre, Garden Marlborough, and the Marlborough Book Festival. Themed exhibitions invite entries from members and non members.

As well, our galleries are a popular choice for other local arts organizations to exhibit their art work e.g. Marlborough Community Potters, Hawaiki Kura Trust, and the Creative Fibre Guild.

After school children's art classes and IDEA Services art classes use the studio on a weekly basis and every few years book the gallery to showcase their art.
